Serbian WordPower iOS Application

So I stumbled upon this when searching for apps on my recently acquired iPad.

The pictures make it seem like one thing. Until I actually downloaded the app...

It's only one word!

If you download this app for free, you'll only get one word daily. It comes with audio pronunciation and you can save each word in a bank...But at a word a day, it's hardly worth the effort.

You can purchase the full version for $10, but I haven't purchased it myself so I couldn't tell you if it was worth it or not. Maybe one day.

Sundjer Bob

Let's take a break from our serious language learning for a second and have fun.

That was actually a false statement. Having fun is a necessity. I couldn't not have fun, because if I didn't have fun I would lose motivation pretty quickly.

So, as I've said, I'm all about immersion. And when I was a kid I immersed myself in SpongeBob for a number of reasons. Mostly because I loved it, and I was hard pressed to find people who didn't.

So when I couldn't find a lot of Serbian material online in terms of television shows, I turned to dubs as my next hope. And it was a bit tough because a lot of Serbian/Croatian shows that were dubbed, turned out pretty awful.

Until...

I was excited, but at the same time I couldn't believe a Serbian Spongebob dub existed. Especially because around the time I found it, I read an article about how most Serbs and Croats preferred subtitles.

The dub wasn't bad at all! It was pretty enjoyable. I didn't want to get too excited though. I was thinking there was only a few episodes.

But lo and behold, this website I found had about 20 episodes. Soon after I checked Youtube and found up to 90! You can find them here. You'll have to flip some of the videos, but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Even now as I prepare for my Serbia trip, I have all of the episodes on repeat. It's fun and you'll learn more than a thing or two.

If you can find other shows dubbed (Fairly Odd Parents would be nice...) let us know! I'd love to check any of them out and I'm sure others would too.

Anki SRS

If it wasn't for Anki, I would probably forget everything I study.

Quick rundown for those who don't know:

Anki is a program for your computer or your iOS/Android device. It's a spaced repetition software (SRS) and it's like convenient flash card device that actually works and isn't a mess and clears your hands up. It's not easy carrying around hundreds of flash cards all over the place just remember how to say izvinite

When I first started, there wasn't a lot of good decks I could find. I tried Serbian, Croatian, etc...Aside from a few mediocre sentence packs, it wasn't really a useful tool for what I needed.

But now there are better ones out, and I'll compile a list here with a minor summary.

Like most things on here, Work In Progress

Serbian Sentences - This deck is from a Teach Yourself Serbo-Croat book. The sentences range from beginner vocabulary to advanced. It's pretty difficult for a beginner, so I would recommend using in tangent with the book if just starting off.

Serbian Verbs - Small verb deck. Very useful when you learn how to conjugate.
